Meet James Monaghan, Dock's new Board Member. Few people in the world have more experience than James when it comes to building decentralized digital identity products. He was VP of Product at Evernym, a pioneering company in the space, recently acquired by Avast. James was also the VP of Carrier Products at TeleSign (acquired by BICS) and Head of Technical Projects at MX Telecom Inc (acquired by OpenMarket). James is joining the Dock Association as a Board Member as well as advising Dock Labs on our product and go-to-market strategies. Weekly product update! Final UX testing of our verification request feature is currently underway in-house. As mentioned last week, this enables a Verifier to request a specific credential from a holder, i.e. a DeFi platform requests a credit rating from a user (also referred to as a Holder). The Holder scans a QR code, receives the request, checks the credential the Verifier is requesting and approves the request to share the credential with the DeFi platform. The release of this feature is imminent. Watch this space! We’ve also completed the design phase of distributing credentials and credential requests via Dock’s own relay service from one Decentralized Identifier to another. This would keep the distribution of credentials entirely within the Dock Network, and Issuers and Verifiers would no longer need to use email / instant messaging to distribute credentials. Similarly, the same relay can be used by Verifiers to request credentials. And finally, an Association proposal to upgrade the Dock mainnet has been prepped and will be published today. This upgrade will pave the way for the Dock / Ethereum bridge to go live later this year!

Here's the first engineering update of 2023! The advantages of a culturally diverse and globally distributed team: the work goes on even over the holidays! Our verification request template is now ready. This enables organizations to request credentials from a Holder and for that request to be received in their wallet. The Holder can then decide whether or not they wish to accept the request and send a presentation of their credential to the org. The Holder remains in complete control of their data at all times, and the organization can instantly verify the authenticity of the credential they receive from the individual. We now have highly portable and trustworthy data with no more need for manual checks! We are also nearing the release of Zero-Knowledge Proofs within the wallet. This expands the privacy and security of the credential Holder by enabling them to select which attributes of the credential they wish to divulge to the organization.

We're building for the long term. 2022 has been a difficult year for the crypto economy. But what you see during these times is that the long term projects, the ones thinking and caring about what they're building, they're the ones that keep going and innovating. The ones that were in it for the quick hit of the short term tend to fade away and disappear. Dock is still here. We're stronger than ever. Happy new year!

In the second half of 2022, we saw a 250% growth in sign-ups to Dock’s Verifiable Credentials platform, Certs. This year, more than 3 thousand accounts tried VC technology for the first time! In terms of Community Growth, we've started our Discord server and gathered 6000 new members. 11000 new people started following us on CoinMarketCap. 5000 on Twitter, and we started our Turkish Community that quickly gathered 1500 new members. This is tremendously exciting for our team! It motivates us to start 2023 and confidently continue to empower more and more organisations with verifiable, fraud-proof data. The Dock Association have raised a proposal to increase the distribution rate of DOCK tokens. This is in light of rising energy costs combined with depressed token prices creating difficult market conditions for many #validators The proposal will be voted on via Dock’s decentralized governance framework and if successful will double the rewards available to both validators and stakers for the next 3 months.
